“Festival in the Park” at Ballou Park, Danville, Virginia. Closed
“call-back” auditions will be held on May 24, 2008, beginning at
12:00 noon, at PATHS’ Administrative Offices located at 705 Main
Street, Danville, Virginia 24541.
Times for open
auditions are as follows:
·
May 16,
2008 / Ballou Park Amphitheater / 5:00PM – 8:30PM

May 17,
2008 / Ballou Park “Southside Super Star” Tent / 11:00PM – 3:00PM
Closed auditions
will be held from 12:00PM – 2:00PM.
The Audition
Process:
Select
candidates, based on their performance and vocal talent, during open
auditions will be invited to participate in closed auditions. Those
selected for the closed auditions will be notified by lists that
will be published on www.SouthsideSuperStar.com by 12:00 noon on May
18, 2008. Of those who complete the closed audition, only 20 will
be selected as semi-finalists in the “Southside Super Star”
competition.
Participants in
both the open and closed auditions are encouraged to arrive as early
as possible. Auditions will begin promptly at the times indicated
above, will occur on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis, and will
conclude when the last participant auditions, or at the closed time
scheduled above, whichever occurs first.
Those selected as
semi-finalists must commit to participation in each of the scheduled
competition events, up to the event’s finale, or until they are
eliminated. An inability to make such a commitment will revoke the
participant’s eligibility.
Audition
Performance Expectations:
Participants
should expect to perform a song of their choice a cappella (without
music), however, all lyrics should be censured and appropriate for
an audience of any age. Participants who are invited to the closed
audition are encouraged, but not required, to prepare a different
song. Due to time limitations at both open and closed auditions,
candidates should not expect to perform an entire song, but should
prepare enough of the song to demonstrate vocal ability.
Semi-Final
Rounds:
Semi-final rounds
will be held at the Carrington Pavilion in Downtown Danville,
Virginia for six consecutive weeks. The dates for the event will be
as follows:
·
Week 1:
Thursday, May 29, 2008 (Season Premier)
·
Week
2: Thursday, June 5, 2008
·
Week
3: Thursday, June 12, 2008
·
Week
4: Friday, June 20, 2008
·
Week
5: Friday, June 27, 2008
·
Week
6: Friday, July 4, 2008 (Season Finale)
Each of these
events will begin at 7:00PM, with the exception of July 4th,
which will begin at 6:30PM, and each of these events will be open to
the general public. Some events may involve themes and/or special
guest performances that may involve participants. At the conclusion
of these events, the audience in attendance will have an opportunity
to vote for their preferred semi-finalists. Each vote will cost
$1. Each member of the audience can vote as many times as they
would like for as many semi-finalists as they would like.
Beginning with the second event, a given number of semi-finalists
will be ‘voted off’ the competition based on the number of votes the
audience responded with from the prior week. The event finale
scheduled for July 4, 2008 will involve only 3 semi-finalists, the
audience will vote during the event, and the winner of the
“Southside Super Star” competition will be announced. The
importance of the audience casting their votes not only shows their
support of their favorite semi-finalist, but also goes towards
generating as much revenue from the event as possible to support the
work of Piedmont Access To Health Services, Inc.
